Aline Rotter-Focken Wrestling Hall

Conversion of a school sports hall into a wrestling hall

Project description

At the 2022 Olympic Games in Tokyo, she sensationally won the gold medal – Aline Rotter-Focken. The joy was not only great for the athlete, her family, the coaching staff and the association, but also a special highlight for her hometown Krefeld. The city of Krefeld agreed to allow the traditional wrestling club KSV Germania Krefeld to convert a school sports hall no longer used by the city into a pure wrestling hall in order to promote the sport of wrestling even more intensively and perhaps to be able to celebrate another medallist or winner of an international championship in the future. Aline Rotter-Focken was also given the honour of having the hall named after her.

For many years, Aline’s father, Hans-Georg Focken, has been the driving force behind the expansion of the competitive wrestling base in Krefeld. Even before the renovation, training was offered three times a week for 3 to 8-year-olds. It was very difficult to constantly set up and dismantle the wrestling mats. In addition, there were many tripping hazards and sources of danger for injuries.

“After discussions with the city of Krefeld, the project was quickly approved, for which I am very grateful. Our wish for the hall was to have a large even surface with a strength and equipment area in our club colours. The walls were to be covered with impact protection.”

After a personal consultation in Krefeld, in which all wishes, requirements and local conditions were discussed, Foeldeak drew up a concept for the new wrestling hall in consultation with the responsible persons at KSV Germania Krefeld. After the desired goal had been set, the implementation phase began quickly. Foeldeak’s task was to transform an outdated multi-purpose school sports hall into a modern wrestling hall that would meet the requirements of today’s club and competitive sports.

We wish KSV Germania Krefeld and all the athletes following Aline Rotter-Focken every success and, above all, great training sessions in the new wrestling hall.

“We are very satisfied with the result. I think our expectations were even exceeded. We had the first training day session the Saturday after completion and everything was great. The staff were very good. They did all the work professionally and always in consultation.
I think qualitatively the mat is very good and we have chosen Foeldeak because we have been working together trustfully for many years. I also think that no other company could have done it in this way.”
